As the father of transgender twins who were among the first in their school and community to come out, my personal family experiences and longtime work with trauma dreams have given me a unique opportunity to gather and report on dozens of dreams provided by LGBTQ+ youth. Several common themes appear in these dreams resulting from traumas that include lack of family support, fear of coming out, religious and political barriers, dysphoria/body image issues, and bullying. Among the most reported were dreams of drowning or being trapped, family and friends laughing or pointing, being called the wrong name or pronouns, being hurt or threats of harm, being ignored, family being disgusted, and of being disowned. More positive dreams were also reported where there was family support, and where physical transition is possible.
